“Discount Codes” for Your Events
While we don’t offer traditional discount codes, you can still provide different pricing tiers for your events! The best way to achieve this is by cloning your event and adjusting the price. This method allows for flexible pricing options while maintaining control over event visibility.
Here’s how you can create different price options using this method:
1. Clone Your Event
The first step is to duplicate your existing event. This creates a separate instance of your event that you can modify without affecting the original.
From your dashboard, each event has a “clone” button under it. Pressing this takes you to the edit page, pre-populated with the base event’s details.
2. Update the Price of the Cloned Event
From the clone event page, you can change its price to reflect your desired discount or special rate. For example, if your original event is £20, you could clone it and set the new cloned event’s price to £15 for a “discounted” option. You can also update the title to reflect this particular new ticket type
3. Control Visibility for Your Different Price Options
This is where the flexibility of this method comes in. You can control who sees and accesses your different priced events.
a. Hide from Listings (Private Link)
If you want to offer a specific price to a select group without it being publicly discoverable, you can hide the cloned event from your main listings. You can then share the direct link to this hidden event with your intended audience. This is ideal for group discounts, or exclusive offers.
To enable this, from the edit page, uncheck the “List event” checkbox near the bottom of the form.
N.B. this doesn’t completely prevent someone from finding your event and buying a ticket, it just makes it hard to stumble across the event in the listings. To prevent people from buying your tickets without express permission, you’ll want to password your event as per the below instructions.
b. Password Protect Your Event
For an extra layer of control, you can password-protect your cloned event. This means that even with the direct link, attendees will need a specific password to access the event details and purchase tickets. This is useful for corporate events, members-only pricing, or specific promotions where you want to ensure only authorised individuals can access the discounted rate.
At the bottom of the edit page is a password field. Enter the word or code here that you want to use. This appears on individual event pages to prevent access, or if you include the passworded event on an event series, it shows a ‘password’ field instead of the normal ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons to select quantity. Once they enter the correct password they can add the event to their basket.
Examples of How to Use This Method:
- Early Bird Pricing: Create a cloned event with a lower price, hide it from listings, and share the link with your early bird subscribers. Once the early bird period ends, you can take the ticket type off sale or hide this event.
- Group Discounts: Clone your event, set a discounted price, and provide the link (or password) to group organisers.
- Member-Exclusive Rates: Offer a special price for members by cloning the event and password-protecting it, sharing the password with your members.
- Special Promotions: Run limited-time offers by cloning an event with a reduced price and sharing the hidden link via your marketing channels.
By utilising event cloning and visibility settings, you can effectively manage different price options for your events, providing a tailored experience for various attendee groups.
